Today’s reading is found in Matthew 5:9 (NLT)
God blesses those who work for peace,
for they will be called the children of God.
Today’s verse is taken from Jesus’ sermon on the mount. Being a peacemaker must be important since it directly correlates with receiving blessings from God. How do we “work for peace?”
The peace of Christ is completely opposite to the brokenness of the world, yet it is something we are to work for. God didn’t create the world to be full of chaos; it was our sinfulness that brought about the chaos. Therefore, in order for us to return to a state of peace that God intended, we must work for peace.
There are many things in this world that we work hard at, but those things can’t offer us the rest and peace we are only meant to find in God.
Can you imagine being the disciples and hearing your Messiah speak of peace? Of course, with Jesus there, they would have felt close to peace. Yet, the moment that Jesus was no longer there, would that peace have left?
We have the privilege of having that peace inside of us.
Take some time today to focus your mind on Christ, the Messiah, and consider this question:
Is there peace or chaos in your life? What is one way to work at peace in your life?
