Today’s reading is found in James 1:17 (NLT)
Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.
Most of us, if not all, have a specific memory of a Christmas as a child when we wanted a particular toy or gift. Every season has that one toy everyone wants, but more than that every child has something special they long for. I would venture to say those longings don’t go away as we get older, they just change. From an early age, our desires are strong, and we all have dreams nestled deep in our hearts for both the big and small things.
However, the gifts that we seek at Christmas will never satisfy a deeper longing that we have. That longing can only be satisfied by our Savior.
Scripture tells us that “whatever is good and perfect is a gift” from God. Jesus was our ultimate gift and the reason we celebrate this season.
Take some time today to focus your mind on Christ, the Messiah, and consider this question:
Think of a few ways you would like to pursue Christ, your good and perfect gift, this Christmas season?
