Today’s reading is found in John 1:1-5 (NLT)
In the beginning the Word already existed.
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He existed in the beginning with God.
God created everything through him,
and nothing was created except through him.
The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone.
The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.
Words are powerful. They can encourage, convict, or demoralize. Words paired with actions are even more powerful. In John 1:1, Jesus is described as “the Word,” demonstrating the power and eternality (endlessness) of the Word of God. Throughout the Gospels, we see Jesus use words to both forgive and convict.
What power do our words hold? Christmas time tends to bring hurriedness into our lives. In our rush of coming and going do we consider what our words paired with our actions reveal to others.
Take some time today to focus your mind on Christ, the Messiah, and consider this question:
Have you been too hurried this season to be intentional with your words? What one thing can you do differently?
